HER TRUE SELF
There are moments when something inside us finally catches up to the life we are living — when the noise quiets just enough for us to meet ourselves without the masks, the roles, or the practiced ways of being.
I see this often in the people I walk beside: the instant when truth breaks through the layers they’ve worn for years, and for the first time, they recognize the strength, clarity, and softness that were always there.
This poem speaks to that kind of awakening.
It’s about the courage it takes to stand still long enough to truly see yourself — not as the world has shaped you, but as you actually are.
Often this recognition begins subtly, with a shift in breath or posture, a softening in the chest, a settling in the bones. But once it arrives, it changes everything.
If you are in a season of uncovering, remembering, or returning to who you’ve always been, may these words reassure you that your inner truth is not lost — just waiting to be seen.
She stood there looking at herself in the mirror,
She had done that million times before,
But today it was different,
Today she saw her power,
Today she had a revelation,
There was no need for a smile,
There was no need to appear a certain way,
No need to be a certain way,
Just permission to be,
To be authentic to her true self,
To be present in her body,
To be aware of her mind,
And for the very first time in her life, she truly saw herself!!
